About Urologists

Urologists are surgeons who after 4 years of medical school, go through some general surgical training, but then go on to specialize with 3 or more years of urological surgery training.

Urology is the surgical specialty of medicine that takes care of the urinary tract of the male and female, as well as the genital system of the male. This does NOT include the filtering mechanism of the kidney. That specialty is called Nephrology.

Among other problems, urologists treat kidney stones, prostate problems, and cancers of the kidney, bladder, prostate, and testicles. Other areas of expertise include urinary tract infections, erectile dysfunction, male fertility, incontinence, and vasectomy or reversal of a vasectomy.
